2nd Place and David Villa
By: Cesar | January 5th, 2009
I would’ve liked to have watched our emphatic 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid this weekend. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to. Of course, it turned out to be one of our better games of the season …
All indications are that it was a thorough victory, one that firmly entrenches us in 2nd place in Spain. We’re 9 11 points behind Barcelona, 1 point ahead of Real Madrid and Sevilla and 3 points ahead of Atletico and a resurgent Deportivo.
David Silva returned to the starting lineup and produced one of his better matches in the Valencia kit, scoring twice.
All in all, a fine weekend to be a Valencia supporter. I’m gutted I missed the game, but you can’t win them all … Behold, the power of the Internet: For video of the goals, please click here.
So … I wish I had more to say about the match but I was in a movie theatre watching Mickey Rourke as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson (or is it Lex Luger? Hmm …) in ‘The Wrestler’. It’s a great movie and for anyone who grew up in the WWF’s hey-day, a can’t-miss.
Still, I’m a committed Valencia fan. So I got regular updates on my mobile as the goals were scored, much to the chagrin of my friends who watched the movie with me … oh well. I need to know what’s going on, ya know?? Luckily, the phone was on vibrate …
Anyways … the other big news of the day concerns star striker David Villa, who let it be known for the 1,285th time that he’s not leaving Valencia. Not now, not anytime soon.
Recent reports have speculated that Valencia and Villa have a verbal agreement to allow El Guaje to leave in the summer, but the truth, according to the player, is very different.
When asked about the matter, following Valencia’s win over Atletico Madrid, the striker simply said, “Yes, there is an agreement, but it is to stay with Valencia for six years. I expect to comply with this, and maybe even add some more years. Hopefully this is the last time I have to answer this question. I am the only one who decides my future.”
Villa then talked about his side’s win: “There is a good environment in the camp. Most of all, we are happy with our performance. It was our most complete performance, we were great both at the front and back.
“The result probably doesn’t do us justice, and we must maintain this form, because then it will be difficult for anyone to beat us.”
I hope this is the last time we have to hear about Villa moving … of course, it’s probably the beginning of a whole new round of speculation … Man City, anyone?
I’m having a hard time writing today, so I’ll leave you for now … make sure to check out the 2nd Annual Let’s Get to Know One Another post … there are some classic replies there as to why readers are Valencia CF fans … great stuff.
Now, I need coffee, a back rub and some shots of chilled vodka. More tomorrow. AMUNT!

Shit, Cesar, Mickey Rourke instead of David Silva ?!?
I mean, I’m a movie buff myself but hey … Damn, these football bloggers are not what they used to be
Seems like you were under huge influence of Mr. Harley Davidson. Er … we’re actually 11 pts behind Culos.

It is usually unforgivable when someone misses a match. However, I have seen the wrestler (twice). It is an excellent film. Mickey rourke for best actor. I’ll let it slide Cesar, this time…
We did indeed dominate them. Silva was brillant, and Maduro was equally amazing (not a typo). Although his attempt to head a cross for a goal was quite comical
If we play like this the rest of the year we will get a top 4 spot with ease. If we continue to play this well…Posted from

Best Actor Oscar, Kyle? That’d be neat … 2nd place would be better!!

By far one of the best matches the team has played. It was great to see the team shut down Aguero and Forlan. I could’ve been able to be at the match but unfortunately Iberia had other plans for me.

Oh Cesar, I can’t believe you did that. What a damn game. Other than the goltv announcers sucking d – they literally followed the ball and didn’t get one players name right in 4 tries, mistaking Baraja with Villa! – we played fearless, attacking football, with a quick reacting defense. It was pure poetry in motion. I hope we do the same against our neighbors from Villareal. I really want revenge for those schlackings – spelling? – we took from them last year, especially the 3-nil debacle that started out our horrendous season last year. AMUNT!

Since this is evolving into a movie blog (love it!), I can recommend you guys some neat footie movies.
Not ‘Victory’ with Sly Stallone of course (and NOT the ‘Goal’ crap either), but some serious stuff.
One of the best movies on football supporters: The Golden Vision (’68) by Ken Loach, very good TV flick on Everton fans. No Manuel Fernandes in it but still worth watching…Posted from

Sounds cool … will have to check it out … I did like ‘Green St. Hooligans’ with Frodo …

@Cesar, I saw Green Street Hooligans first, and I must say that I liked it. But I recently, after persistent recommendations, watched The Football Factory, and it blows GSH out of the water.

Britons made some pretty realistic films about footie supporters. ‘The Firm’ with Gary Oldman (NOT w. Tom Cruise) is pretty great as well…
