What a Week It’s Been …

By: Cesar | April 23rd, 2008

voro.jpgWhat a week, eh?

From the jubilation of a Cup win last Wednesday to the depths of despair, 2 points from relegation and a drop into the abyss of the Segunda.

First, let me say I stand beside many readers of the blog in saying I’m very happy to have Albelda, Angulo and Canizares back, even if it’s only for the last 5 games.

These guys deserved a better sending-off than they got. Whatever’s happened since they were fired, from a court case to public wrangling over being dropped by ex-gaff Ronald Koeman, these guys deserve a last run-out on the field.

Besides, Canizares can be a capable back-up if not the starter. (Although I fancy Timo these days …)

Angulo is as good if not better than Arizmendi. You know you’ll get fight and passion every time he steps on the field.

And Albelda? Well … he’s a warrior, plain and simple. I’m ecstatic new coach Voro’s decided to see whether these guys can help during the last 5 games …

Imagine the psychological lift the Trio will provide once they step out onto the pitch. Imagine the emotion that will flow from the Mestalla should Canizares, Albelda and Angulo run out onto the Mestalla grass with the team … it doesn’t get much better or more emotional than that.

Some news:

- TinTin wants 10 million Euros for running the club into the ground … are you serious? Get a grip and leave us alone already.

- Marcelino admits he’s been in contact with Valencia, although there’s no agreement … yet.

“There is contact from my representative with Valencia, as there was with others, but there is nothing more. There is nothing signed. If there was something then I would say so,” Marcelino said in quotes reported by Spanish rag AS.

“There was contact more than a month ago, but no agreement.”

This would be a super signing. Well, Rafa Benitez would be a super signing. But you get my drift …

- This is an interesting read from goal.com tracing Valencia’s problems for the last 4 years. Definitely worth a read … an excerpt …

We need hardly go over Koeman’s failings yet again - we discussed this last week - but to take a different tack, it’s worth remembering what he inherited. Here was a side that was clearly based around the spine of a team capable of a top-four place, but it was one decimated by in-fighting and two successive bouts of dreadful transfer market operation by sporting directors who might as well have been in another country for all the communication they had with the club at large. Soler’s reign, while itself coming to an end due to illness, had produced a culture of cliques at the Mestalla. It wasn’t just the left hand not knowing what the right was doing: it was as if each finger was struggling to point in a different direction.

As such, it’s arguable that Koeman didn’t even have a chance. Certainly he made huge mistakes, definitely he could have adopted a whole different attitude. But in truth, he was maybe on a hiding to nothing from day one. So too might be his successor.

Interesting, for sure …

about that article from goal com, cesars ¨ soler outeats jaba the hut´ article was how i found this blog and have spewed my hatred of koeman ever since, ill accept that koeman came into a team that wasnt at its best.BUT his atitude and methods, and nobody elses have taken us down to these murky depths.

spler has been inept and thats praising him,HIS ONLY interest in our club is the outragous money he will make from nou mestalla.that is an unarguable fact.

and another thing, david albelda cried because he had to tell his father that hed been sacked from the his team, a team that represents a way of life and a language.thats what it means make no mistake.something that is so missing in modern sports.loyalty and pride,a legend for me.

Thrilled that the Trio are coming back, especially our captain Albelda.. nothing against old Baraja, but the armband always belongs to Albelda while he’s still a Che

Ali, you dislike Albelda becaus he cried?
Cristiano Ronaldo cries any time they loose an important match, but now the world thinks he is the best player in the world. I can’t adree with you and I think Albelda iswery important for our team. He IS alegend and he is a true Capitan.

Rejoice! Another way to make my day after seeing Cristiano miss his pk earlier on the telly.

Albelda had every right to cry. Disliking him for that reason makes NO sense whatsoever to me.

Ronaldo cries cuz he’s a bitch. A folicle of his gelled hair moves and he calls for a foul, and gets it. Albelda cried–one time–because he was unjustly outed from the club that he loved and to which he dedicated his career.

Ronaldo is a bitch. Did anyone see him miss the PK and then cry for two more. I hope Barca kick there ass and I hope an English team does not win the CL. They dont have the best league! They have 4 solid top teams and the rest is fuckin shit! La Liga is the best and the hardest league to excell in. Just ask Henry or even Torres who is just lighting it up in England. Amunt Valencia y Espana!

What is Koeman doing demanding a payout, he said he was proud of his achievements yada yada yada, but his actions on and off the pitch are far to be proud of. Seems to me like he finds it unjustified that he was sacked, if there was anything he could have done to redeem himself for his dreadful record, the least he could have done was admit that he failed at Valencia. I am glad that we have gotten rid of this huge egomaniac.

On another note, it is great to see the trio back again, it is more a symbolic move than anything else to me, I think it is fantastic what is being done. Whatever went on behind the scenes, I think the trio deserved to at least be given back the pride that Koeman and Soler stripped them of. I just hope everything would turn out smoothly now. This weekend’s match is probably going to be one of the most important matches ever to see if the team is able to get back on track.

I think it’s important to note that Koeman is demanding a payout for himself and his assistants, not just himself. So it’s not like he’s demanding €10million for himself — though how evenly that would be distributed between the three is certainly up for debate. I’m sure this will go to arbitration and something like €6m-7m will be granted by the courts.

Looks like you’re going to get your wish…Apparently the injuries to Caneira, Arizmendi and Moretti mean that Angulo is almost assured a place in the starting line-up. And if Hildebrand doesn’t recover in time Canizares could be back, too. How convenient…

Hey, Cesar, just a quick FYI that I have a general overview post going up on the Euro2008 main page at 2:00 Pacific today on Aragones saying he’ll consider your three prodigals for Spain. At the bottom I link to this blog and the Spain blog. Just fyi in case you want to provide more details in either place.

We’ll see if the return of the ousted trio is worth it if we stay up, and we’ll also see how much Albelda and co love the club if we go go down to Segunda, Transfer anyone?????

How bullshit is it that GolTV is not playing the match on Sunday? I bet they have so much demand for Betis and Villareal. This is the second week in a row that they’re not showing Valencia–they are the reason I pay extra every month to get the damn channel. Please join me in sending an irate email to info@goltv.tv This is nonsense–Ray Hudson would not stand for it, nor do I.
