Manuel Fernandes Likes the Valencian Nightlife
By: Cesar | January 4th, 2008
Manuel Fernandes may not be adjusting to Valencian cuisine or the Che midfield, but he’s certainly taken to the wild Valencian nightlife.
The moody Portuguese midfielder spent a night in prison after a fracas at a night club in the city center last night. Does the drama ever end at the Mestalla?
No, seriously. Does it?
Could anyone script a more gut-turning drama?
The Portuguese star was with a group celebrating teammate Miguel’s birthday. All of a sudden, a bust-up took place after a fellow party-goer called the police claiming his watch was stolen. (You can’t make this stuff up …)
While Miguel was not taken to the police station as he refused to leave the disco without his lawyer or his whiskey, Fernandes and his brother were escorted away.
Despite requests from the rest of the players, the police refused to allow Fernandes’ release. He spent the night in a holding cell.
Valencia are expected to issue an official statement once they have all the facts, but the incident is unlikely to impress coach Ronald Koeman.
Uggh … someone tell me why it has to be so hard to be a Valencia supporter these days??
Oh … we drew Real Betis in the Copa Del Rey.
Uggh …

You have Marchena, Albiol and Alexis for the center, my god what more do you want? And as I predicted, Fernandes will not last more then a year in Valencia, between the night life and Koeman he is in for a rough ride.

marchena is a bad player,, so is albiol… i think alexis is realy good but he didn’t get a chance plus his injury…marchena and albiol they run for not reason, specially albiol… they just run!! run !! run in the field… we need real defence not marathon runners.

Yes, I’m worried about the defense too and so do most people who post here – just that in last couple of months, everything was so bad, that its hard to focus your worries on one aspect..:)
Koeman’s first priority, which he stated even in Nov., was to get a left back…he wasnt impressed with Moretti and we dont have any cover there.
I was shocked when QSF let go of Del Horno.
So, hopefully we should get someone new.I dont know about center – I wish we do get someone experienced, but its not easy. Also, we have to remember, we are Valencia and not Real Madrid, who can buy lots of players in the hope that some click.

Marchena is not bad, far from it. Albiol is a DM, not a center back. And Alexis is under rated. Moretti was naturally a center bac as well but has filled in for awhile there, while Navarro was let go and you never adequately replaced Ayala. You should only point the finger at the management, not the players. Your 3 center backs are all of considerable quality.

How stupid is Manelele! He should have taken a clue from Miguel. Omigod. Alexis is still hurt right? But I still think Marchena and Albiol are quality, they are just not motivated or happy. Plus no confidence, lack of harmony in the squad and no trust in the coach. Kinda agree with Corey.

sry i respect ur opinion nd corey’s but seriously.. r u watching the games? how could a person think marchena and albiol r doing a good job.. they r extra numbers in the field!

They arent doing a good job right now Ali, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good players. They haven’t been anywhere near their full potential this season but they are both quality defenders. They’d never make it anywhere near the national team if they weren’t

Hi, From the papers yesterday, Jaume Part, President of the Valencia Fan Clubs has told Soler that he must put things right or resign.Sñr Part visited the club and said there is total chaos and he sensed fear amongst the employees and directors. Only Caneira has gone on tv supporting Koeman. Marchena in turn spoke on tv stating the training is affecting him because he trains alongside, the 3 dropped players (collegues for many years) knowing they will take no part in the future of the club.Bakero is supervising the exercises giving a well done when they are jumping through the hoops or whatever but there is a stony silence when it is one of the ‘three’. It has been confirmed that Fernandes is ceded to Everton for the rest of the season (no doubt why he was celebrating last night!) so lets hope that is the last of Koeman’s “Fly in the ointment”.
Koeman has had a lucky draw with the cup with Betis, 3rd from the bottom with -8 goal average and on Sunday he has Levante, bottom with 7 points and -22 goal average, so someone must be smiling down on him. The test will come in the next game against Atletico 5th place with +12
goal average, lets see if he can knock that down a bit.
Where Valencia is concerned , a week is a long time in football. Happy viewing………AlmendrosPosted from

Almendros, i like the inside info, is Fernandes’ loan to Everton confirmed yet? I havent heard anything, and as for Marchena, as he is training with the 3 ‘outcasts’, is he considered one as well now?

Almendros, thanks for the inside scoops!!
I read about Manelele going to Everton. Good riddance.
The Levante game won’t be as easy as we think … look for more dramatics this week. This is Valencia, remember?Posted from

Hi, to answer a couple of your queries, I write what I read in the papers and see on the tv but this is about as good as the weather forecasts. Originaly Fernandes was reported as a swap for TETA in Everton but yesterday on tv his agent said he had been ceded for the rest of the season however he has to stay in Valencia until the Court case is dealt with where a couple of police report injuries recd. in a disco. This results from a fracas when he was accused of stealing a watch.
The comment Marchena made on tv was because of the atmosphere where they are training together but the ‘three’ are like they dont exist, a very upsetting experience after all the years they have been together.
Vicente yesterday said it is painful the way they are treated and should be allowed a dignified exit.Vicente is also upset that he has been bypassed for Captaincy in view of his work over the years. Koeman chose Baraja for Captain and Marchena for Vice Captain, I think in past years this has been resolved by a vote from the players and not the Trainer. The Soap Opera goes on in Levante 3 of their players SOLARI,RIGA & SAVIO Were not back from their holidays in time for training.Solari is off to Caligari because he is not getting paid and Savio and Riga will be used because of their attitude, their is no truth in the rumour that Biasi the trainer will be filling the slot to help out. Well it starts in 40 mins so AdiosPosted from

Valencia-Levante 0-0 Hi well thats it then. Koeman has worked his magic and we now know his true level. Are you sure he is not a ‘Mole’ paid by Barca or Real, after all we were only 4 points from the leading spot when he took over. What happens now??

I think we need to keep Koeman for the rest of the season, and ideally allow the “three” to leave on loan, giving next season’s trainer the option to recall them if necessary.
Every coach should have the opportunity to play with players he has signed, so we’ll see how Banega plays and any other signings made between now and the end of the transfer window. Any players that Koeman decides to release in one of his holier-than-thou outbursts should, where possible, be loaned out so that they can return to Valencia at a future date, and they will still get match practice allowing them to compete for their national sides.
Considering Koeman has only been signed until the end of the season and fortunately no longer (a smart move, as teams often sign coaches for 2 or more years and then regret it), getting rid of him now would be costly in the legal courts, especially as Koeman left Ajax mid-season to join Valencia. I think this season has to be written off, hope for a UEFA place and success in the Copa, and unless things improve between now and next summer, get rid of Koeman in the summer, sign a new coach and let him decide, during the preseason, whether to being back former players currently on loan.
If anything good is coming from the Koeman experiment, it is that Lombán, Montoro and others are getting top-flight experience. Don’t forget that Sisi and Estoyanoff are at Real Valladolid, Regueiro and Curro Torres are at Murcia, Hugo Viana is at Osasuna, David Navarro at Mallorca, Pallardó at Getafe and Del Horno at Athletic. All of them can technically be called back next summer. Of all of them, I would certainly like to see Estoyanoff and Sisi given a run.
