Maduro. Our New Albelda.
By: Cesar | January 18th, 2008
I wish I had more time to write, so here’s my ‘Lazy Man’s Approach to Blogging’.
Basically, I tell you the breaking news: Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro has signed for Valencia.
Then, I copy and paste Reuters article about the signing … complete with my own comments: ‘Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro has arrived in Spain to sign for Valencia, Spanish media reported.
“I have chosen Valencia because it is a great club that can play great football and because I want to play in Spain,” Maduro told reporters at the airport on Friday. (Did he smile?)
“I know (Ronald) Koeman, he is a good coach, and we have worked together in the past at Ajax.” (Good coach? Is he delusional?)
The 22-year-old Dutch international, who came through the youth ranks at Ajax, is set to take a medical and become Valencia’s second signing of the January transfer window along with Argentine midfielder Ever Banega.
Spanish media reported the transfer would cost around two million euros ($2.93 million) for a 4-1/2 year deal, with the player’s contract at Ajax expiring at the end of the season. (Cheap. That’s good.)
Maduro is potentially a replacement for dropped Spain midfielder David Albelda and loaned-out Manuel Fernandes as Koeman continues with his restructuring of the team.
The Dutchman dropped stalwarts Albelda, Santiago Canizares and Miguel Angel Angulo last month after a poor run of results. They are seventh in the Primera Liga.’
Then, I shrug my shoulders and ask my loyal readers, ‘Anyone know anything about this lad?’
Then I go back to work. More later …

I know he’s been in the Dutch side for a while, particularly when they dropped Seedorf… I think I remember seeing him get a yellow card or two, so thats definitely in the Albelda mold right there

And what about this Nica guy and Cufre that I see we’re linked with?

Hi, The papers report him as having played for Holland in the sub 21 21s He comes from Aruba in the Antilles but the price makes you a little suspicious. Koeman first gave him his chance in 2005 so he must know what he is doing, or does he. Following on from Caesar’s remarks, although you can understand the dispensing of older players,no one can agree with the crude and heartless way it was done. Koeman has got to be suspect for his action with Canizares. Good goalkeepers are hard to find and Cani is still one of the best in the Liga. What a good player to hold as a 2nd string whereas in the event of injury Koeman will rob their 2nd team who are deserately trying to climb up a division this year and have good chances to do so. The guy has got to be suspect. He has had luck however with Real Madrid getting knocked out of the cup.The papers state Soler is still looking for a left central or defence and
another (?) forward, in which case some of the three (Cani,Angulo and Abelda)will have to be crossed out of the team (I thought they were) He now says Zigic is not for sale unless it helps him sign Huntelaar by raising some cash or a part transfer.Villa and Morientes are back so Montoro is side-lined for the moment. I think he realises at last that experience counts after the falling off of the pace in the 2nd half against Betis when he brought on Sunny (who didnt know where to kick the ball) and Mata (who failed to collect 2 great across goal passes from Silva. Zigic is in praise of Villa and Morientes and lists them as among the 5 best players in the world (the others being
Drogba, Vieri and Shevchenko) and he is quite happy to sit on the bench and watch them play (Which may happen)
Thats it from today’s press ..Adios..AlmendrosPosted from

I think it was a good move. He’s inconsistent, a promising start declined into last season he was widely criticised for his form, though he had bad luck due to injuries. This season he’s been improving though and proper motivation plus a desire to make the 2008 world cup could mean Valencia is a great opportunity for him to break out. He’s mainly a DM though like all Ajax players he has great technique and passing skills (coupled with a poor attitude)
Maybe Koeman knows what he’s doing after all. At the very least he is an improvement over Albelda and Baraja, I think between Maduro, Banega, and Edu with the past it Baraja as a backup, the Valencia midfield is actually more promising than I originally thought.

Greg, that’s an awesome comment.
Haven’t heard much of Maduro. Seems like Albelda including the poor (ish) form of late.
I still think everyone misunderstands Koeman’s dumping of the old guard. It was done because they were the leadership group of the team, and they were exerting a bad influence on the team (in Koeman’s perception). Not because Cani was a bad keep (he wasn’t), or Albelda was not for Valencia (he was probably one of the best Valencianistas of all time), or that Angulo was simply Angulo (oh, wait…)

Maduro is a really great player. Like Nolan said above accurately, he tends to be inconsistent but I think this move to Valencia will give his system a jolt. Him and Banega in midfield will be awesome once they get to know each other. Maduro has great positional sense and is extremely technical, great passer, great turning and above average vision. He’s still pretty young and obviously needs Liga experience but this could prove to be a great signing for the future. Oh, I also think he has a rocket of a shot on him too.

Not bad at that price. However, the price is not the most important thing in our terrible situation. The most important thing is signing great players, who can turn the situatin around and find us the fourth place in La Liga. There’s no time for new players to find out their potential.
I was one of those who said QQ can get us the fourth place, but we need a higher rank. Now, I’ll be the happiest with the fourth place every season.

Hi, todays papers say Maduro is signed subject to papers and medical being in order.Price quoted as near 2 and half million euros and Ajax offered up no resistance to this (makes you wonder, or does Koeman know something that no one else does) Koeman wants him as a replacement for Abelda. Todays match at 10 pm will be on Canal Nao.
Team quote as Hildebrand….Morietti,Marchena Helguera,
Arizmendi…..Silva,Baraja,Banega….Vicente,Joaquin…
and Villa riding point. Koeman may play Zigic in Villa’s place instead……….Fingers crossed….AdiosPosted from

Also what’s up with Edu? He deserves more game time, if he can get in form he’d be better than Baraja.

From Mestalla, Valencia shop, TV rights, loaning players (Gavillan, Sisi, Pablo, Fernandez, etc.), selling player contracts (may be Angulo and Canizares, if they can find new clubs), other investments, and may be from Soler too.
Money should be our last prolem nowadays. The 2 ME should be less or equal to one match revenue.

For those who couldnt see the match, I am afraid Valencia were completely out played and outgunned. The score 3-0 is not a true indication. Valencia had one excellent shot by Baraja and would have been a goal except for a brilliant save.Villareal hit the goalposts 4 times without Hildebrand being nearby so you can add those to the list.Apart from that Hildebrand had to do some pretty good saves, except for the last goal where he went down on his knees (praying?) without getting hold of the ball and it was just flipped over his head.
Koeman keeps saying the team is moving in the right dirrection, which must mean backwards, how long can he go on like this? He is building a wall around the changing entrance and training area as he is being disturbed by the attention he is getting from the press
(poor thing) There is no truth in the rumour that it is to protect his training secrets.According to the press there are 2 players almost signed, DICA from Steaua for 4.5 million and Jo Elves (Brazilian) from CSKA Moscow,
they are asking 12 million for this one so nothing is certain (is it ever)Koeman so far has lost 21 points in 9 games, how does he hang on….Adios ..AlmendrosPosted from

Disgusting…we had zero presence in the midfield. Silva was atrocious as was Vicente. I don’t know how many times I yelled at the tv for them to pass back, control the play…all they did was lose the ball. Rossi and Nihat were absolutely outstanding as was Pires.
