Leave Your Heart on the Pitch!!!

By: Cesar | March 19th, 2008

ow.jpgToday’s La Nit de Foc, the annual Night of Fire that concludes Valencia’s grand Fallas festival.

Along with the burning down of the huge papier-mâché figures around the city, known as La Cremà, the two events constitute the last acts of the Fallas festival.

Everyone drinks, goes home and gets ready for next year’s festivities.

This year is a little different because as soon as the party ends, the anxiety takes over.
The semi-final of the Copa Del Rey rides into town, FC Barcelona paying a visit and nothing short of our entire season is on the line …

Look at the picture of the guy with the Valencia tattoo on his back … talk about hardcore!

What the caption says is very true … Valencia need to literally ‘leave their skin’ on the pitch tomorrow.

A defeat in tomorrow’s game would leave us with nothing left to fight for but staying in La Liga for next season. There’s no way we’re getting into Europe with the form we’ve shown lately. This is our only shot, the winner of the Cup getting an automatic bid into next season’s UEFA Cup.

We need to leave it ALL on the pitch, give it everything we have.

Defeat and elimination would probably sentence Ronnie ‘TinTin’ Koeman to purgatory and send him packing. This could be a good thing, but not at this stage of the season. Fire him at the end of the year. But not now. Let’s just play with what we have. Let’s just give it our all tomorrow … Please?

I’m not good at prognosticating or writing previews of games. It’s not me. I just write what I feel, give you my opinions on the club, good or bad.

And this is what I feel about tomorrow’s game: We need the win! BADLY!

We need Koeman to figure out a way to motivate these guys to play the game of the season and show the fans this means something to them. Because we’re tired of expectations. We’re tired of shoddy play. We’ve had enough of the drama. We just want to cheer our lungs out this time. Give us something to cheer for!!

We need Timo Hildebrand to channel the spirit of the great Santiago Canizares and make some spectacular saves, like he made at the Camp Nou in the first leg of this semifinal.

We need Ivan Helguera and Raul Albiol to marshal the middle of the field and throw their bodies at balls.

We need Ever Banega to put the video camera and the whiskey down and pass the ball around like he’s been doing so gracefully so far.

We need David Silva to show up, Joaquin to stay on his feet and Mata to continue to play with high energy.

We need Marchena to play with grit and the reserve squad to be ready to play when called upon.

Most importantly, we need to get the ball to David Villa. And once he gets the ball, we need him to score. He can go to Tottenham or Chelsea or Dubai next season for all I care. Right now, he wears my escudo. And until he takes that bat off, he’s my player. I want him to score. We NEED him to score. Just show up and play, Guaje. Make it an audition for Manchester United, for all I care. Just score …

Like the front cover of today’s SuperDeporte says …

Do it because you’re from Valencia (or like most of us, because we support Valencia …)
Do it for your dad (that’s nice, eh? Father’s Day in Spain is March 19th …)
Do it for that girl you like …
Do it because you want it more.
Do it because a Cup is a Cup (how true …)

Tomorrow in Mestalla … give it your all, put your heart and soul into it, leave it all on the field …

Ronaldhino is out, Eto’o promises they’ll play better than in the first leg, Cruyff is coming back to play, etc etc etc …

I don’t care.

If we want this game more than they do, we’ll take it.

C’mon, Koeman and Co. Show us what you have. Give us this one bit of redemption. Make us believe in you and your project …

Amunt! I can’t wait until tomorrow ….

Congrats, guys. Hard fought victory and even though I have some complaints about the ref, I think the biggest complaint is about our defense, which really gave up the ghost, especially on that third goal.

Nice finishing by Valencia, shit finishing by Barca and that’s all she wrote.

Just because it’s funny: Despite the catalans being awarded a goal from a handball in the first tie, the folks over at the barca offside are now complaining about bad refing in today’s fixture. Oh, the irony…

And by the way Cesar, I was born in Binghamton, and would like say… J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS! If there’s one team that I’m more loyal to than Los Blancos, it’s the Gang Green! (Vilma to N.O.? WTF!)

Holy Shit! I just got done watching the match (I recorded it because I was at work all day). Man, I was on pins and needles the entire game. When I saw the first and the second Barca goals, I was freaking out. I had flashes of another nonsense last second goal by the damn Catalans. Mata is and is gonna be a sick player; Villa gave his all; and Albiol played a hell of game (the two goals notwithstanding). We just beat one of the best teams in the world! I’m on cloud nine right now and don’t have to work tomorrow. I’m gonna be draped in Valencia gear and booze tonight. Onward to the final. AMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNT VALENCIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a loyal Barca fan and it is NO FUN for me to watch Barca take ANY loss but you have to tip your hat to Valencia for their performance in today’s 2nd leg Copa de Rey match. Their 3 – 2 win was well deserved as was Barca loss well deserved. Valencia now has something to aim for.
Now I will personally be fine with a Champions League title but Barca …..NO NO…….. Rikjaard is testing me and all Barca fans patience……did you see the angst at Nevada Smith today??? ……. and not disappointment either….more…. enough of the manager and his methods…..If Marinho or Wenger were managing………..well……enough said….
    Again, Congrats to Valencia!!!!

    Goodbye….Rikjaard…….

MATA MATA MATA! I have been saying it all along the kid is pure talent. Did you see his cool calm shots on goal. kid plays with heart and fire something we have been lacking. Oh what a shot that third one. Freeking Xavi just looking at the ball gently roll past his head. I love it. Si se puedes..

Lo lo lo Valenciaaaa!!!!!! Nevada’s was packed with Barca fans in every direction. At halftime Cesar and I were singing with gusto while all else were silent. Finally! Celebrating a Che win! Awesome goal by Baraja, best defending I’ve seen all season. All we need to do is beat Getafe on April 16th. God I hope we beat Real on Sunday. AMUNT CHE!!!!

Fully deserved but the margins of winning and losing in that game were so close, Mata’s second was very fortunate but i don’t care we needed some luck and now we must surely win it. My optimism about reaching the champions league is defintly finished but a cup win will be a decent achievment considering the problems this season.

Damn, I wish I could’ve been at Nevada’s with you guys–Cesar and Daniel–but as I said earlier, I’ll be in NYC for the Racing match on April 12, so we gotta hit up Nevada Smith’s and cheer on win before the big cup final.

At last our boys show up – Mara Villa, Silva, Albiol, and Mata. Damn that kid looks like Wayne Rooney! And we finally got a bit of luck! Can this kick start our season and spur us to a 10 game winning streak? I hope so! Can we beat Geta – a very tough team who needs this Copa win just as much as we do. C’mon they’ve got big Bayern in the next round of the UEFA cup. But I really think the players are starting to believe. Hey! I’m starting to believe. We always had the quality, it was just the dressing room and the mental crap. Si se puedes!

    Aupa Valencia!

Hey we won.Im soo happy but I still think Koeman must leave.
Maybe we can re-live the 99 season where Ranieri led us to a Copa and then Hector took us to 2 consecutive finals.
I believe we can be back to what we used to be but we CANT achieve that with Koeman in charge.
