Joaquin Strikes Back!!

By: Cesar | May 21st, 2008

joaquin210508_es.jpgI’m honestly trying to write a season review post.

I swear I am!

It’s just that Valencia keeps providing us with news that so succulent, I can’t ignore it …

Today, Joaquin answered Ronald Koeman’s critiques from yesterday … and boy, did he ever …

“Koeman was a person who looked past people, above their shoulders. He didn’t have the cojones to say things to one’s face, whereas I did. The only thing he was worried about was having dinner with five or seven bottles of wine, for a warm, relaxing glow. And when he left he didn’t say goodbye to the players - he just left with six or seven million euros.” Five or 7 bottles? That’s quite a tolerance TinTin has …

“[New coach] Voro has gained in five matches the same or better than Koeman managed in five months! Koeman has knocked me down and I’m ashamed by what he’s said about me. But I don’t blame him entirely for my not going to Euro 2008 - just 99 per cent.”

Yikes … strong words. But can you blame him? I still rate Joaquin, no matter the detractors. I’d really hate to see him go and I think under the right tutelage, he’d shine.

Speaking of, who will be our new coach?

Signs are pointing to Unai Emery signing tomorrow. But hold on … what about Marcelino, who is leaving the Racing Santander job today?

Or Michael Laudrup, who left the Getafe position a few days ago?
Or Ernesto Valverde, who could be fired by Espanyol in a few days?
Or Jose Mourinho, who is supposedly in Vicente Soriano’s radar should he come in as the new owner …
Or maybe former Valencia player Didier Deschamps, who we wooed last year?

Who knows?

One thing we do know is that Valencia are interested in recently relegated Real Zaragoza stars Alberto Zapater and Sergio García.

The twenty-two year old Zapater is seen as one of the best young defensive midfielders in Spain.

García, on the other hand, has caught the attention of national team coach Luis Aragones and has been named in Spain’s 23-man squad for this summer’s European Championships.

The twenty-four year old has been linked with English side Tottenham Hotspur in recent times as his stock continues to rise.

I’d be happy with these signings.

But first, players will have to be sold to balance the books. Once that happens, it seems that Zapater and García will be among the first moves made.

Let’s cross our fingers …

Two more quick notes:

- Apparently QQ Sanchez Flores is being offered the Real Betis job for next season. Guess Betis don’t want to win anything for the next few seasons … Ouch! Did I just say that?

- Tonight’s the Champions League final in Moscow … what do you all think?
My opinion? 0-0 and penalties … 15-14 to Man United … at least they have a tradition.

Well, I am with Joaquin on this one, but truth be told, his bad form isn’t recent, he never lived up to expectations, even during QQ days. He was never consistent enough to be considered an indispensable player on Spanish squad, actually very few are(like Casillas or Villa). Koeman may be responsible, somewhat for it, but nowhere near 99%.
As for valencia I’m happy we managed to get on the top half, in the end, but as someone else said, there is no point in looking at the past know, they should know what they did wrong this season and should be focusing on the next season now.
And do we need zapater? We already have Marchena, Banega, Maduro and Sunny on that position. IMHO we should be looking for better defenders and some good attacking midfielder like Van der Vart, not looking for players in positions we already have. The budget is inevitably going to be short next season so they have to spend wisely on positions we need the most.

Just came back from watching the UCL final.. The best bar in New York, Nevada Smiths, was full to capacity 30 mins before the game started and there was a news truck and news crew posted outside. For those that don’t know, Man United are my 2nd team so I was there to support the Red Devils. Screamed my lungs out, almost lost my jacket in the celebrations, and now I’m sitting at work in my Man U jersey, smelling like sweat and Heineken and attracting curious stares from other people in the building as I type this. Valencia to lift the UCL trophy in 2011 in the Nou Mestalla?

I hate Cheski! glad to see that asshole John Terry miss the penal. Seen it like 8 times and it doesnt get old, him crying like a little baby on the sidelines I love it. Man U is shite but not as bad as Chelski. Would rather see El Nino and liver in final if not my beloved Valencia. Sell Villa and Joaquin I wish they would just leave already so we can see who were gonna have for next year.Villa leaving might be the worst thing for our club its not the end of the world just look at Atleti this year sold El Nino and know there in the Champs league.

I think the situation between El Nino’s Atleti of last season and Valencia this season can’t really be compared, but I’d love to see Valencia achieve what Atleti did without El Nino, but I’m just not sure if it would be best if Villa leaves at the mo. For Joaquin…love the bloke but I think it’s time.

I think we’ll have to see how Villa does in Euro 2008. If he plays well, then we can prepare our goodbye messages to him.

Hi, as Ahmed says it has been announced now that Emery is Trainer for 2 seasons 1 million euros per season. It was announced that only one important player could be sold but did not disclose the name.Another thing said was that of the ten new faces taken on this year, they are hanging on to Mata and Arizmendi. But of course this is what they say today.Emery will be presented in Mestalla tomorrow so by next week there may be some progress announced. Caesar I think your remarks about Quique were a little uncalled for.He was fired having won six games out of nine. If you carry that average through over the 38 that would give you 25 wins. Villareal are second in the Champions with 24.
Quique is not a Kouman and we would not have been in the nail-biting state we were in if we had kept him, in my opinion I think we would have been in Atletico’s spot.
    Adios …Almendras

personally i find Joaquin always works hard and darts past players with fair ease ont he wing.. the problem has always been nobody to support him if Miguel isnt playing. He is fast and finesse. he is far above average and he doesnt score the goals he sets them up.

koeman is a total douche… first it was “the threes” fault. Then the media .. built a wall.. then the fans sucked. Then all the team. Never his fault. Go suck a big one Koeman i wonder why you were about toget fired at your last team.

I for one look forward to Emery could be a nice change.. we need a solid play style and he will bore the players to death with videos of corner kicks till we get it nailed down. Thats what we need.. we have skill we need teamwork and setplays. Thats what emery specializes in. So lets wait and see. I know we will do better next year. I just hope we dont lose too many players.

Today Morientes said he is staying for another season. THUMBS UP. he will score us 12 goals next season. Just watch.

I like in Emery that he makes the players to work hard phisically. That is whwt we need now and if they train well enough in summer i expect we will win lLa Liga.

I heard alot of things about this Emery guy. His players respect him. He is not always popular with them cause he repedetly makes them watch clips of corner kicks and set plays but his players say that it works and his message gets across and everyone knows were they are supposed to be. I think he might be one of the best lets just hope and see.

hmmmm Emery.. i dont know.. hes too young and i think Benits happened once and wont happen again! i hope im wrong! i hope he gets us somewhere he offcourse lacks champions league and Uefa experience but hey lets wait and see!!
    - i think exchanging jaquin with arteta from Evertonw ould be fantastic!!! if they open thier mouths and become greedy! we could give them M. fernandes and ask 3 millions! jaquin was never worth 30 million!! hes okay but arteta would be extraordinary!
im not liking that morientes is staying.. hes too old.. yes he could score but hey we need a striker that runs a lot not only stands near the net waiting for sm one to pass him.. he will take a striker place in Valencia. without him i think we would give another striker a chance.

Why the hell couldn’t we get Marcelino or Laudrup? When did we have to settle for young–barely older than Baraja–second rate coaches. That being said, I hope he works out. With these young hotshots, they could do really well–Rafa–or really bad. Let’s hope for the former. For the love of god, let’s keep Villa. I still have hope.

Bore them to death with videos of corners!! I personally think that for a top European team, Valencia absolutely sucks at corner kicks. Absolutely. Not that I’m saying that every corner need result in a goal or acrobatic save from the goalie, but the majority of Valencia corner kicks either don’t make it past the first defender or sail over the action in the box. I have a good feeling about Emery, and I doubt even the idiots that run our club would sell Villa or Silva before giving them a chance to boost their price tags at the Euros. If only 1 star player need be sold, if it’s Villa we could spend about half the money (20 mil euros?) on a quality striker, or if it’s Silva, we give Pablo or Sisi some action next term

Good points Daniel. I def think we should keep Silva. I’m getting less and less sure that we need Joaquin, although I think he has a lot of talent. But if we need money as much as the press and everyone say we do, one must be sold, and Silva and Villa are too dear to my heart, and too damn good, and, in Silva’s case, young. El guaje is definitely gonna shine in Euro–I’m so hyped to watch my furia roja finally relinquish the curse. Although Aragones has recently instituted a scheme with only one striker, as he displayed in the latest friendly against Italy. And that lone striker was Torres. But I hope he puts Villa and El Nino together again. On a completely different note, has anyone heard anything about Van Der Vaart? If we sold Joaquin, or took a portion of the money from Villa–perish the thought–and bought him, it would bolster our attack. He’s nasty and just the player we sorely need.

I agree with Daniel and Timothy. I am for Emery with both my hands and also Silva is my favourite player in our team. Villa is also too valuable, so if we are going to sell 1 star player only, and we need the money to buy new players, let them sell Joaquin, though he is so good in the right wing but we need a wery fast and technically professional pyayer in the centre of the field. I’m sure everything comes from the centre!

Yeah, I heard about it (or rather, I saw it on my monitor) too, Bob. Right now I’m just waiting to see how things will unfold. Nothing’s been proven yet. But it’s so nasty to hear terrible things about Canizares, I always thought he was weird but only in a funny way.
