Finally Over and New Kits

By: Cesar | May 16th, 2008

vcfedited2gq8.jpgSo what do you think?

These are supposedly the new kits we’ll be wearing in next season’s La Liga and UEFA Cup competitions … not too bad, eh?

I didn’t get this season’s kit and for good reasons … why would I want a kit that’ll remind me of one of the worst seasons in our history?

No thanks … I’ll pass.

This ‘worst season’ comes to a thankful end this Sunday when our beloved host Atletico Madrid … talk about a vanilla contest.

Atletico are safely tucked into a Champions League spot and Valencia are safely in next season’s La Liga.

So what’s the excitement for this game? Plenty.

First, the supporter’s clubs plan an all-out protest against main shareholder Juan Soler. They, along with every sane Valencia fan, want him to sell his shares and kiss the club goodbye. Let’s hope he gets the idea and bails. Hopefully some rich investor will get in there and load the club coffers full of money.

Next, the club plan to celebrate last month’s stirring Copa Del Rey victory. They wanted to celebrate it before, but with a relegation battle at hand, it didn’t feel right.

Well, now that we’re safe, here comes the celebration.

Thing is, the hostile environment of the Mestalla might not befit such a celebration. What are we celebrating, exactly? Ok, we won the Cup. So?

I know it sounds like I’m a flip-flopper. In some ways, I am. I admit it.
While it was great to win the Cup and see our beloved in a final, I just want this season to end. The Cup did not save the season. The Cup was a nice treat in an otherwise dismal campaign.

I don’t think anyone will be in a celebrating mood come Sunday. Most of us just want it to end.

Sunday could also be the goodbye of many players. And a coach.

Should Voro win on Sunday in his 5th game in charge, he’ll match Ronald Koeman’s record in 22 games. Think about that … in 5 games, he’s done exactly what TinTin did in 22 games!!! Unreal …

In any case, he’ll likely be gone after Sunday’s game.

What’s this I hear? Michael Laudrup is leaving Getafe at the end of the season?

Hmm, interesting … very interesting.

Then again, do we really want another ex-Barca player running our club? Koeman and Laudrup were teammates during Barca’s ‘Dream Team’ era of the early ’90’s. Hmm …

Well, whatever happens come Sunday, it should make for a fitting end to a dismal campaign.

Some chants against the team and chairman. Some goodbyes to notable players. Hopefully a victory … who knows?

We’ll have time to analyze the season and discuss who should stay and who should go once this game ends … we all know what the story is. No need to rehash it here …

For kicks, take a look at this article from goal.com analyzing our future … The end of the beginning?

I dunno, although the author does make some good points. It’s nothing you guys haven’t talked about on the Comments section of this blog before … the article does a good job of putting everything we’ve said in one place … what do you think?

Wouldn’t Villa look nice in that new top?

I’ve bought this season kit… it WAS remarkable season… I’m one of those who still believe in some high-conspiracy-thingy that we’ve encountered in this season.
But then again… I’ve enjoyed every goal we’ve scored, lived for every game we’ve played. It just pumped with adrenalin…Even when we were losing, I’ve felt bad, but still hope remained…
    - about new kit, I love it!
    - new news about Villa, many Madrid fans see him already on Bernabeu, but still there aren’t any offers for him, and he said he would stay in Valencia only (talking about Primera)
    Amunt!

Cesar’s right: “el guaje” means “the kid” in Asturian, much like Fernando Torres nickname of “el nino”. I’m on the fence regarding the new kit. Cesar, how did you find out about this? I remember last year I had to wait till like July to see the new uni’s. Unfortunately, I broke the bank to buy an authentic Silva jersey from http://www.laligashop.com for this season. I’ll just try to forget the season which the kit represents, or if the club is as stupid as they appear to be, I’ll wear it in mourning over the loss of Silva. So, Toyota is no longer our sponsor?

    Ahmed –

Gila is gone regardless of whether or not Milan sign Drogba or Sheva. However, I wouldn’t want him here at Valencia (my favorite team in La Liga…and outside of Palermo in Serie A for that matter). He wouldn’t be a good fit for Valencia…I guess entertaining the idea of going after Adriano might pay off nicely, but he’d want some $$ that he doesn’t deserve as of right now.

It’s just too bad that Villa is as good as gone this summer. He’s about as vital to the club as Amauri is to Palermo. All we can hope is that the club gets the max possible return for his services…

Hi Guys, and Caesar, I am afraid nothing is “Finally over”. It states in today’s Levante that Salom will present his resignation as Vice President next week owing to disagreements with Soler and will give up all his tasks as Sports Director. The paper states that this demonstrates that Soler is the only strong man of Valencia. This remark is of some importance. As has already been said by Caesar, Laudrup is leaving Getafe even though he has another year’s contract (very strange) but does not want to reveal his possible destination. However I can see a possibility of us staying with Voro (who may not tolerate Soler anyway) as no Trainer worth his salt is going to risk his reputation at the mercy of egomaniac Soler. Koeman actually never had a chance (Ali will agree here !!)
Abelda/Angulo/Canizares were the most experienced players
in Valencia’s previous glory and could not stand by and see the club brought down by Soler and obviously told him so more than once. Koeman was taken on with the understanding that the ‘three’ had to be dumped on their arses. This is actually confirmed you will remember in the court case where Koeman says he was ordered to dump them and of course two-faced Soler denied it.This life-threatening surgery destroyed the team Morale overnight (except for all the young new boys)and gave instant lack of respect for the Trainer.QED no morale, no respect,no wins (or very few).By the end of next week we should know the worst,as they say a week is a long time in football. To end on a better note, I believe Canizares (who has agreed to forgo his last year of contract to 2009) will be playing his last match on Sunday. With his trophies he retires as the best goalkeeper Valencia has ever had.My congratulations go to him for his performance and the colourful personality he has given us……….Adios, Almendras.

Just confirmed: CaƱizares will be making his final appearance for Valencia: http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5hjrvJNhNNvO_gPNdhxtgp7OxneYA

Also mentions he’s reached an agreement to terminate his contract, too.

A shame his final season with Valencia will be remembered by him and the fans for all the wrong reasons, but it will be a respectful farewell nevertheless.

Here’s to one of Spain’s best goalkeepers!

The new aint all that i prefer when our home kit is black and white sets us apart from other teams in la liga who wear white. The players pissed me off by not celebrating with the fans they were probably trying to be dignified but messed up as usual. By the way Gilardino has lost it and adriano is not the kinda risk we should be taking. The really annoying thing about this money situation is i would prefer not to buy anyone and bascially keep the core of our team just trim the squad of players like Jaime Gavilan,Abelda,Viana etc. Out of all the games we lost this season the only ‘unjust’ result where we deserved something from the game was the lost to Athletico so im backing the boys to turn them over AMUNT VALENCIA!!!!!!!!!

Moriemtes said a nice phrase lately”Only 2 teams in Spain have won a title this year and we are one of them”.
I would add that we were the FIRST Spanish team that won any
    title this year.
Actually anybody of us evaluate a season according his expectations before the season. I thought it would be nice to win any title and we won La Liga, so i am satisfied now!

Laudrup and Koeman are friends. I doubt Laudrup will come to Valencia.

Bob you made me laff so much. My stomach hurts!

Yes we won a trophy but that doesn’t make up for the season. Soler is a deadly virus that needs to be eradicated. Or we could become another Depor.

Ashame about Ximo, he deserves to be in the Euros more than others. But he is a trouble maker and tells it like it is, regardless.

Spain’s performance at the Euros should be really interesting. Villa will probably play his ass off. Torres is on top of his game. What am I talking about, it’s Spain….

Elisa, I feel your pain: it’s easy to be excited about la furia roja given their immense talent, but at the same time, it’s hard because of our troubled history. However, I have a good feeling about this summer, we’ve been playing very well and I think we’re gonna do it. I bet on it–that’s how confident I am. That being said, could be yet another disappointing memory. Anyone who wants to watch Valencia online or any other game for that matter, go to: myp2p.eu
