Crisis Total

By: Cesar | December 18th, 2007

canete_albelda370×200.jpgWow! Woke up to some amazing news this morning regarding our beloved Valencia CF. Two icons of the Valencia team won’t be playing with us the rest of the season.

MARCA.com reports that Ronald Koeman has told Santiago Cañizares and David Albelda that they will not play in the last two games before Christmas and could be dropped for the rest of the season.

Bombshell!!

“With respect to everyone and to Cañizares and Albelda, I have explained everything to them,” Koeman said.

“We have decided that they will not be in the squad. They will not play in the next two games and then we shall see about the future. These are strong decisions that we have to take for the good of Valencia and that is most important. I want to change things and give opportunities to other players.”

What about Cañete’s good recent form?

Koeman bluntly asked if people remembered the game against Racing Santander. Yikes …

When asked whether he felt that the decision could cause problems in the dressing room at the club, Koeman was not concerned.

“It could do,” he said. “There will be people that criticize me and people that agree with me, but I have to accept that and keep working. I am working on my own plans and that is to change things. Only the future will decide if I have made a mistake or not.”

On the one hand, a strong decision.
On the other, very sad … I’m still in shock.

We know the club needs change. But this is quite abrupt.

What do you all think?

I still can’t believe it,but I think that Koeman has been courageous because they are two of the signs of Valencia … I think that there are now players better than them and has been a good decision.well done koeman…

Wait, what? Knowing next to nothing about the club: Is this because they’ve been crap, or because of something behind the scenes, and Koeman is asserting his authority before everything falls apart?

Oh shit!!! Dropping the captain and the starting gk takes balls. But it doesn’t hurt to have Timo Hildebrand on your roster either.

Silly move, but if both players speak out against Koeman then go for it, we all know Canizares was a trouble maker in the last WC with Aragones.

This is a mix of courage and suicide. Only time will tell which one it actually is.

I agree with sara: it seems like a smart move. Koeman isn’t afraid to say, “You know what? This is not working! Changes must be made.”

Honestly, that’s the only way things will improve- if he shakes things up.

Hildebrand is a good GK, too.

I just read on goal.com that Hildebrand is heading back to Germany to play for Wolfsburg in January. So are we starting with Mora from now on??

With Cañizares openly out of favour with Koeman, I think Hildebrand will stay.

That goal.com story might have jumped the gun. Was it written before or after the news that Cañizares & Albelda will be excluded?

goal.com, Daniel come on, dont believe anything they put on their site. Hildebrand wont leave if Canizares is out.

It’s a strong move. Canizares is a huge liability and Albelda has been even worse this season. Koeman may ruffle some feathers, but let’s see if he can pick the right players. I think Valencia will look the best with Sunny/Edu in the midfield. Too many excellent players are riding the bench for Albelda to stink it up. I love the guy but he’s been terrible this season.

Yes, I wouldnt worry about the goal.com article either - their level of reliability has suffered a lot this season.
Plus, the recent development regarding Canizares will put an end to such speculation about Hildebrand.

We need bold steps for sure…hope its done with the best of intentions as we can only speculate about them and only rely on media for information, which itself is speculative.

If reinforcements are actually brought in this is the proper move.

Albelda has been downhill since last season, he’s not that old but he just hasn’t been doing his job as a captain - I think the wage issues over the summer shook his loyalty, and at the very least he doesn’t deserve the captaincy.

I know Valencia fans love Canizares but as a neutral letting him go is the best move. Even if he performs his body could destruct at any moment and recent history suggests that as long as he’s around he will want to play even if it’s not the best for the club. I’m sure he cares about Valencia but he has a bit of an attitude problem and will be trouble for Timo or any other keeper who wants a shot. Maybe he deserves more respect than this but it’s clear he isn’t cooperating with Koeman.

Hopefully Koeman also realizes that Helguera and Arizmendi aren’t good enough.

This could either be the beginning of a new start or the final nail in the coffin. It must be horrible for you Che fans to have to live through the suspense right now, but I guess all clubs test fans loyalties at times.

people good morning.i hate that decision.ok albelda is not ok this year, but what the other players?i think that kooman try to make an excuse to the funs and to soler.he has done nothing so far,so now he has time to excuse himself because of the changes.

May be it’s not about finding Canizares in good form or not, but seems it’s for getting rid of the captain (Albelda) and the vice-captain (Canizares), who affects the team negatively.

Why didn’t Koeman mention the second vice-captain (Angulo) :p

This is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Good goalkeepers are a rare find and Valencia are in no state to dispose of him. Mora has played 1 liga match in 2 years and Hildebrand seems to have lumbago every other week. Despite the 3 goals from Barca, the performance of Canizares could not have been bettered, he saved at least another 6, the shots were coming in like bullets.
Koeman took over 5 weeks ago. What right has he got to say ‘Find another team’ The best thing for all is if Koeman finds another team. A pity we didn’t take on Juande Ramos who pulled the Spurs out of relegation to mid-table and who are now in the semi-finals of the Cup.

George, Even Angulo has been given the boot for remainder of this season. We know that Koeman doesnt think much of Moretti(correctly) and though Helguera is bad, we dont have many options (he’s still better than Albiol if nothing else then for his experience).
Arizmendi is anyway a young(I mean young wrt stature in team) player and can be rested easily - so he desnt have to be given the boot publicly…;)

    (M) Sanchez Joaquin 17

The game began with a fumble by Mora who looked as if he hadnt played a Liga match for a couple of years, which is true of course (well once anyway)Then Real shot one under him and the game settled to your average 2nd b match. There were a few lapses but that was because they only seemed to have one ball. Finished at 1-0 half time
so Koeman knew the “young ones” werent making that much difference. Fernandes put Sunny in the shade then Zigic came on or was it Legit. When he warmed up enough to untangle his legs he put 2 good ones in the net, so all is well until the weekend

Mata played a great game. He should start all the time he really wants it.

    mora.. meh.

Cani dismissal was a mistake he is still one of the top goalies in the world and he should have at least been allowed to ride the bench with dignity for all he has done for us
