A Fork in the Road

By: Cesar | February 10th, 2008

villa100208_es.jpgLooks like the winning ways are back at the Mestalla, courtesy of a 3-1 victory against Real Betis.

That’s our first victory at home since late November and it’s about time. Who would have thunk at the beginning of the season that it would take THIS LONG for us to win a game at the Mestalla in the middle of the season … absolute lunacy. Anyways, that’s the way it is.

David Villa scored twice and added an assist, showing critics that his long dry spell may finally be over. Unfortunately, there was a controversial moment late in the 1st half when Villa appeared to handle the ball before laying it off to Silva for the assist and goal.

Well, nothing comes easy these days. At least we won. With the victory, we’re in 9th place with 33 points, 1 point from Racing Santander and a place in next season’s UEFA Cup, 8 points from Atletico Madrid and a spot in the Champions League.

So all is NOT lost. There’s still a lot to play for …

Meanwhile, Villa could be gone, with England a prime landing spot.

With Chelsea and Spurs both chasing a forward, El Guaje has fuelled the fires of speculation by stating that a move to the Premier League is an exciting prospect.

Villa said of the idea to Sky Sports, “I am happy at the interest within the Premier League and this is my dream if I leave Spain.”

Meanwhile, embattled Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz said, “If we receive a formal offer, we’ll study it.”

So that’s why he’s playing well.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: If he wants to leave, LEAVE. With the money we get from his sale, we’ll buy two talented youngsters who actually want to be here. Good luck in England because you’ll need it, Mr. Villa. The Premier League isn’t La Liga. You won’t be allowed acres of green to dance and do cross-overs. He’ll learn that soon enough …

And more news, as word’s leaked that Ronnie Koeman wants to ax even more Valencia players. According to the news today, Tintin wants to ax Mora, Miguel, Caneira, Sunny, Edu, Baraja, Morientes, Zigic, Mata, Vicente.

So basically, half the squad.

If this is true, someone needs to talk sense into the man. Why get rid of Mata, who’s looked pretty impressive the past few weeks?

What about Sunny, the talented midfielder who’s been given zero chances by the Dutch maestro? Miguel, Baraja and Morientes, I understand. But Zigic? Vicente? Edu?

C’mon …

Maybe he’s serious about this … maybe they’re intending to sell Villa and the rest of the squad, cash in these valuable assets and make a run at some new talent, completely overhauling the squad?

These are tricky times at the Mestalla and Valencia have truly reached a fork in the road.

On one side, a run at the Champions League. On the other, a path straight into oblivion.
Who knows where Mr. Koeman, Mr. Ruiz and Juan Soler are leading us?

I hope they know what they’re doing. By all indications, the jury is still out …

IF he really wants to self those 10. Especially Vicnete and Baraja, Sunny and Mata. Solom should kick his ass out of Mestalla. Not only Koeman is more blind and gives player zero chances, more importantly, he doesn’t respect Valencian tradition and history and the club. That’s a huge humiliation, no matter how many trophies he wins won’t compensate that.

Oh, BTW, Soler has stepped down and give the power to 3 vice president. Solom is now in power in sporting.

Oh…If he really sells those players, I regard him a dumber ass and more arrogant and less a coach than Quique…
Don’t start with the football he’s playing, nowadays it’s almost the same with Quique’s, only without the solid defense.

So El Guaje has put himself up on the storefront. Well what can you say, but he looked stunning today. I agree with you Cesar. David Villa doesn’t have the physique or strength to handle the Prem. He needs to have a body like El NiƱo Torres.

I also agree with Cherry, Tintin has no respect for the traditions of the club. He is mad and I totally believe he would get rid of everyone else in June. What a jerk!

wow a nce win! villa is GOLD!!…i dont think he will ax 10 players. perhaps 5 maximum.. i think he did learn his lesson from axing 3 players. me personaly im with him if he exed morientes, mora, and edu… edu he was good but i dnt know he had his chance and proved nothing to be honest., but the rest i dont hgin he would ax them… i would take it if he axed zigic maybe cuz he doesn’t suit the way he want to play, i mean its insanity but i can MAYBE understand, but if he kicks mata and vicente and sunny then hes got a messed up brain!

OMG… Can’t believe this coach… He’s a total jerk; I agree with some slight changes to the team but 10???? That’s stupid… I mean, you cannot get rid of a team that has kept in the first positions of la liga the last two years…

Btw, Villa’s thoughts of joining a premier league team; are pathetic… Valencia is a great team… Villa is just ignorant about the clubs history….. Anyways; let him go… He is going to regret it.

I don’t think he will leave Valencia. He is able to reach the maximum of his goals in this team. I don’t agree with Koeman. He mustn’t ax Morientes, Vicente, Mata, Miguel and Zigic. But his oppinion about Edu, Sunny, Mora, Baraja and Caneira is correct. That’s my oppinion.

koeman is doing a nice job. The team is improving little by little and we got rid of Quique at the end. Step by step we’ll catch champions league places!

From a cule point of view, this is worrisome as we’ve got you coming up in the Copa, but it’s nice to see Valencia at least acting like it’s back on track. Villa is a scary mofo when he’s on…

We still defended TERRIBLY.. but we were on form going forward.. a cynic would say Villa’s really tryin to up his price tag in the coming months. We need two new defenders, or at least one and we can wait a few more weeks til Alexis recovers..

I use to like Villa a lot now he is a frekin punk. He only plays hard when he wants too. Let his ass go! Anyways he will probably be better off in an inferior league like the English prem. lol! He wants to possibly play at Tottenham! Now that is funny, lets see Tottenham or Valencia? What an idiot! I dont like the idea of axing Mata the kid plays with fire.

Villa is just your typical clinical finisher. Its sucks that he wants to leave, but i understand considering his manager seems absolutely out of his mind. But from Valencia to Tottenham is a major downgrade(Btw spurs, how about getting some freaking defenders! Berbatov-Keane is not enough?)

Well the spurs do have 2 good cb, but they’re injured all year long (king and Woodgate:D)

About Villa, he always tries hard. It’s not his fault he’s getting rushed back onto the pitch, how is he supposed to play if no one passes to him/he’s unfit?

At least he’s trying to up his price tag, so we won’t get ripped off in the summer.

    And he won’t leave..
