Updates and Tidbits
By: Cesar | July 27th, 2007
I wish there was more to say, but it’s been a slow time for our lads out in pre-season training.
- Hildebrand and Alexis, two of our summer transfers, are having physical problems and didn’t participate in training the last few days.
- Kim Kallstrom’s agent is in Valencia today hoping to secure a deal. Good luck with that. I don’t think it’s going to happen. Then again, this is modus operandi for Lyon: say a player isn’t for sale, the player throws a sissy fit and then he’s sold. Happens every summer (Diarra, Essien). But I’m not holding my breath.
- The team’s in London for the Emirates Cup today. The Cup is hosted by Arsenal and includes our old nemesis Inter Milan and PSG, who we play Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
- The club’s after another center-back, this time French international and current Juventus player Jean-Alain Boumsong. I don’t know anything about the lad. Anyone have some opinions?
So that’s about it. More news will come this weekend after the current round of games at the Emirates Cup, one of the highest profile pre-season tournaments in the world.
Still, slow going at the Mestalla.
- Nice to see Simao Sambrosa joing Atletico yesterday. We were flirting with him heavily last season, winking our eyes at the Portuguese international and showing some leg, but passed in the end. Atletico has a strong squad. I’m almost more concerned about them than Real Madrid.
- So as far as my new Valencia shirt goes, reader Hamse suggested I get a Silva shirt. That sounds like a good idea, although I’m leaning more towards Villa at the moment, as reader Sara suggested.
They’re both such wicked players. Maybe I should get one home Villa kit and one away Silva kit??
Man, there’s nothing going on right now is there?? Anyone have some exclusive Valencia news I don’t know about? Help me here …

There is a strange Juninho - Valencia link I read about in a few places, but I’m not sure how true that is. I know Juninho hasn’t been happy at Lyon recently, but he just signed a new contract until 2010. Also, I was under the impression that Valencia wanted younger players. Juninho is 32, and while he has another 2 years of good playing left, he’s not exactly a spring chicken.

Boumsong? Before Juventus he was half of Newcastle’s “chuckle brothers” defence with a certain Titus Bramble. If you want defenders with terrible reputations you might as well just get Cygan from Villareal.

Three things to say:
-At least Valencia have had a decent amount of time to rest this pre-season.
-Here’s hoping for an excellent Liga return for Simao…
-I ordered the new 07/08 rojiblanco home jersey- hopefully it’ll be here by the start of the season.

Re your query on Boumsong, according to Superdeporte,Rainieri has no uses for him and Juve just want his seed money of 5 million back so it doesnt sound promising although he is big and ugly enough to frighten a few forwards !

Juninho is an awesome player!he’s 32 years old,but this isn’t a problem…Boumsong is good,and more young(28)…but I prefer Juninho because he’s a crack!…mmm and today Valencia vs Inter Milan…VENDETTA.;-)

Amunt Valencia! I only saw snippets of the 2nd half but we really outplayed Inter. Arizmendi didn’t look too bad at all I’m surprised to say. Anyone with a link to the highlights?

I agree with Blanco. But, instead of paying 5 ME for Boumsong, who may not adapt quickly, Valencia should have kept Navarro to avoid paying all those millions. He was an excellent replacement, can scare opponents, and a good back up in fights

I’ve been having a difficult time leaving replies on your blog and a couple other folks’ Offsides. Weird!
Here’s hoping Simao has an excellent return to Liga after his less-than-successful time at Barcelona.
I bought my 07/08 rojiblanco home jersey; no name in the back. Hopefully it’ll arrive by the start of the season!

Well, Inter were mostly crap (and the foul that led to to Villa’s awesome free kick was a dive), but you guys spanked us. That was only pre-season game #2? Damn.

Inter wasn’t crap, it’s Valencia who did extremely well. This is becoming a tradition at Valencia: to dominate against strong opponents, and play carelessly to weaker sides. We can lose to Levante but beat Barcelona
what is the hell is that mentality

What a goal by Gavilan! I thought the pass from Baraja would be out of play and the angle was so tight. Fantastic!
As usual, Angulo missed an easy opportunity to make it three.

Gavilan’s goal was directed by Toldo, though — it had quite a lot of help!

The ball flew straight under Toldo’s arm like a bullet into the net Martha. Watch the highlight. Toldo didn’t help at all.

To Hamse, you can watch the goals here:

Really? It’s look to me on the replays like it changed direction as it went under him — I’ll check it out again.

Want to see the shame, then have a look at this:
http://www.dailymotion.com/search/Valencia/video/x2nafl_emirates-cup-valencia-paris-les-but_sportLosing 3-0 against PSG sounds irritating for fans. Nevertheless, the good thing is, Valencia didn’t play at all and was obviously lazy all the time, except for Baraja and Joaquin. It would have been more irritating that result happened at full focus or in an official match.

Attended the first day, which was extremely encouraging from the point of view of all Valencianistas. Baraja looked his old self. Gavilan looked like he could be a threat this season. Joaquin, Silva and of course Villa looked as awesome as ever. Then came yesterday. Very disappointing to see Valencia drop in quality so much. For me, the defence was very poor again. Moretti and Marchena seem to have lost it recently. Helguera looked good against Inter, but I am still hoping to see Alexis and Albiol as the defensive pairing for next season. Hopefully a new left back will come sooner rather than later.
